Traffic Safety Initiatives: Drive to Arrive Alive

This publication describes a key study on law enforcement traffic safety showing that officers wanted more motor vehicle training and that smaller agencies dedicated little time or few resources to training beyond what the state mandated. The publication also describes a toolkit including a manager sheet to guide agency leadership in incorporating safety materials into the workplace and 40 safety messages that managers can adapt to their agencies’ needs and share with patrol officers, as well as a “drive to arrive alive” decal to visually remind officers to use safe driving practices. It also includes various safety recommendations.
